2. Use ten

   To add, make a ten. 8 + 5: move 2 to make 10. 3 are left. 10 + 3 = 13. To take away, hop back to ten. 13 − 6: back 3 to 10, back 3 more. 7!

3. Think addition

   15 − 8. Think: 8 plus what makes 15? 8 + 2 = 10. 10 + 5 = 15. We added 2 and 5. That's 7. So 15 − 8 = 7! Watch out! The answer is the part you added, not 15.
