   Hi friend! Meet Fern the frog. Fern is having a pond party. Frogs hop in. Frogs hop out. Each story has a question. Do we add? Or do we subtract? Let's find out!

2. Clue words

   Listen for clues. More come? Add. Red and blue, how many in all? Add. Some go away? Subtract. Some are red, the rest are blue? Subtract.

3. How many more?

   11 red cups. 7 blue cups. How many more red? You hear more. But nothing comes in! We compare. Match each blue with a red. 4 reds are extra. Subtract! 11 − 7 = 4.
