  2. Tens come first

    Here is 45: four tens and five ones. Here is 54: five tens and four ones. Look at the tens first. Five tens beat four tens. So 54 is bigger!

  3. Which one is smaller?

    Sometimes we want the smaller number. Read the question! Which is smaller, 72 or 27? Look at the tens. 7 tens and 2 tens. 2 tens is less. So 27 is smaller!
