Meet Ziggy the zebra, who runs the silliest sundae stand in town! Ziggy has 3 flavors: chocolate, strawberry and lemon. And 2 toppings: cherry and nuts. Each sundae gets one of each. How many sundaes can Ziggy make?
Grow a tree diagram
A tree diagram shows every choice. The trunk is the start. First it splits into 3 flavor branches. Then each flavor splits into 2 toppings. Count the end paths: 6. Each end path is one sundae!
Multiply to count fast
No time to draw? Every flavor goes with every topping. 3 flavors, and each one gets 2 toppings. That's 3 groups of 2. So 3 × 2 = 6 sundaes. Don't add 3 + 2!
