How the lesson starts: Percent of a Quantity

Bruno's muffin shop
Hi there! Baker Bruno just baked 80 muffins. He says 25% of them are blueberry. But what does 25% mean, and how many muffins is that? Percents are everywhere: sales, test scores, even your battery. Let's crack them!
Friendly percents
Percent means out of 100, so 45% = 45/100. Some percents are friendly fractions. 50% is 50/100, which is 1/2. 25% is 1/4. 75% is 3/4. And 10% is 1/10. These benchmark percents make problems quick!
Let's work one out
Back to Bruno's 80 muffins. 25% is 1/4, so split them into 4 equal trays: 80 ÷ 4 = 20. One tray is 25%, so 20 muffins are blueberry. What about 75%? That's 3 trays: 3 × 20 = 60 muffins.
