Unit Rates
How the lesson starts: Unit Rates

The robot cookie factory
Hi there! Welcome to the robot cookie factory. Bolt the robot bakes 24 cookies in 3 minutes. His boss, Pixel, asks: how many cookies does Bolt bake in just 1 minute? That number is called a unit rate. Let's find it!
Share it out
Split the 24 cookies evenly over the 3 minutes. Minute 1: 8 cookies. Minute 2: 8 cookies. Minute 3: 8 cookies. So 24 ÷ 3 = 8. Bolt bakes 8 cookies per minute. Per means for each one, and a unit rate is the amount for 1.
Let's find one ticket
Pixel buys 5 tickets to the robot show for $35. What does 1 ticket cost? Go from 5 tickets down to 1 ticket by dividing by 5. Do the same to the cost: $35 ÷ 5 = $7. Careful: 5 × 35 would make it bigger, but one ticket costs less than five!
