Write & Graph One-Variable Inequalities
How the lesson starts: Write & Graph One-Variable Inequalities

Sunny Park rules
Welcome to Sunny Park! The Loop-de-Loop sign says riders must be taller than 48 inches. Is there just one height that works? No way! 50, 55 and 60 inches all work. When lots of numbers work, we write an inequality: h > 48.
Signs into math
Here are the park signs in math. More than 48 becomes h > 48. Less than 12 becomes h < 12. Greater than also uses the > sign. The open end of the sign faces the bigger number, so h > 48 says h is the bigger one.
Let's write one
The Rocket Ride sign says: height more than 52 inches. Use h for height. More than means greater, so use the > sign. Write h > 52. Check a rider who is 60 inches: 60 > 52, true! But 52 itself is not more than 52.
