Find an Author’s Reasons
Identify the reasons an author gives to support a point in a text.
How the lesson starts: Find an Author’s Reasons

Zara's big idea
Hi! This is Zara the zebra. Zara has a big idea. Gardens are great! That is her point. A point is what the author thinks. Reasons tell why.
Point and reasons
Zara's point is gardens are great. Why? Reason one. We can grow food. Reason two. Bees can visit the flowers. Reason three. Gardens make our school pretty.
Let's find a reason
Zara reads. Trees are useful. They give us shade on hot days. Birds build nests in them. Which reason is in the text? They keep the air clean? True, but not written here! Trees never need water? Not in the text. They give us shade. The author wrote that!
