Hattie's Hat Shop
Hi friend! This is Hattie the hedgehog. Hattie sells hats. But not just any hats. Word hats! Some words name things. Some words are hats that take a name's place. Let's sort them!
Nouns and word hats
A noun names a person, a place, or a thing. Maya. Park. Kite. A word hat takes a name's place. Maya has a kite. She flies it. She takes Maya's place. Word hats are called pronouns.
Let's sort four words
Ben. Does it name someone? Yes, a boy! We. It doesn't name anyone. It takes a name's place. Zoo. It names a place! It. That's a word hat for a thing. Watch out. Short words like it and we are hats, not names!
