Hear the Vowel Pattern

Distinguish long and short vowel sounds in regularly spelled one-syllable words and use the pattern while reading.

How the lesson starts: Hear the Vowel Pattern

  1. Super Rafi's magic E

Meet Rafi, a super pup with a red cape! Rafi has a trick. He adds an E to the end of cap. Now it says cape! Let's hear short and long vowels.

  2. Short, then long

Listen. Kit. The I is short and quick. Now Rafi adds an E. Kite! The E is silent. It helps the I say its own name. Hop becomes hope the same way.

  3. Rafi sorts four words

Rafi has four words. Tub, tube, pin, pine. Let's say each one. Tub is quick, so it goes in Short. Tube says U, so it goes in Long. Pin is short. Pine is long!
