How the lesson starts: Read Prefixes and Suffixes

  1. All aboard the word train!

Toot toot! Meet Nuri the raccoon. Nuri drives a word train. The base word is the engine. Cars can hook on the front or the back!

  2. Engine, front, and back

The base word is the word you start with. A prefix hooks on the front. Un, tie. Untie! A suffix hooks on the back. Help, ful. Helpful!

  3. Find each part

Nuri reads the word repaint. Is there a car on the front? Yes, re. So re is the prefix. Paint is the base word. Now slowly. Slow is the base word. L Y on the back is the suffix.
