Use Visuals and Tools to Clarify

Add drawings, images, or other visual displays when they clarify ideas; choose appropriate print/digital support for sharing work.

How the lesson starts: Use Visuals and Tools to Clarify

  1. Bea's big talk

This is Bea the bee. Bea gives a talk about how a sunflower grows. Seed, sprout, stem, flower! Her friends look puzzled. So many words! A picture could help them see it.

  2. Helpful or just pretty?

A good visual helps people understand. A labeled drawing of a sunflower helps. Pictures of each growing stage help. A shiny star sticker? A photo of a birthday cake? Pretty, but they don't explain anything.

  3. Bea picks a visual

Bea's friend talks about how a plant grows. Which visual helps? A funny cartoon of a dancing pizza? Not about plants. A race car? No! A labeled drawing of a seed, a sprout, and a flower. That explains it!
