Analyze Characters, Settings, and Events

Describe characters, settings, and events in depth using thoughts, words, actions, and other specific textual evidence.

How the lesson starts: Analyze Characters, Settings, and Events

  1. Ember of Cloud Peak

High on windy Cloud Peak lives Ember, a small green dragon. Today we get to know her like a real friend. We'll watch what she does, and figure out what she's like inside.

  2. Action to trait

A trait is a word for what someone is like inside. Actions show traits. Hiding while others fly shows timid. Leaping to save a kite shows brave. Cheering for a cousin shows encouraging. Laughing out loud shows joyful.

  3. Match like a pro

Soot shares his snacks with the baby dragons. Ask: what kind of dragon does that? One who gives. That's generous. Ember checks the map three times before a trip. Ask again. One who is careful. Ask the same question for every action.
