How the lesson starts: Bridge: Build a Grade 6 Argument

A greenhouse in space?
Aboard Space Station Nova, Cadet Theo the tortoise has a big idea: a greenhouse in space! The Space Council only says yes to a strong argument. First, every sentence needs a job.
Three job questions
A claim answers: what should we believe or do? A reason answers: why? Evidence answers: how do we know? It's a fact, a number, or an example.
Let's sort sentences
Should and needs point to a claim. A general why is a reason. A sentence with numbers, names or test results is evidence. Watch out: a reason is general, like exercise keeps bones strong. Evidence is specific, like a test result.
