Build on Ideas in Discussion

Come prepared, follow discussion norms, pose/respond to specific questions, build on others’ ideas, and draw conclusions from the discussion.

How the lesson starts: Build on Ideas in Discussion

  1. The Moss Pond Book Club

Welcome to the Moss Pond Book Club! Kiko the frog, Dev the turtle, and Hana the duck are discussing a book about Tally, a proud beaver. Today they learn to build on each other's ideas.

  2. Build on the last idea

Kiko shares an idea: Tally changes by the end. Dev adds a detail that fits. Hana points to page 12 and adds something new: Tally helps the otter kits. Each reply steps from the last one, like stones across a pond.

  3. Let's test replies

Kiko's idea is on the table. A skateboard story? Off topic. Saying Tally changes by the end again? A circle. Pointing to page 12, where Tally helps the otter kits? It adds new evidence. That builds!
