How the lesson starts: Use Text Evidence in Literature

  1. Order in Story Court!

Welcome to Story Court, where Judge Hoot the owl rules with one word: prove it. Today you help Pita the penguin, the best story lawyer in the snow. Her first cases are about facts the story says out loud.

  2. Said out loud

Here is case one. Kofi packed a thermos of cocoa before he left for the snow fort. Question: what did Kofi pack? The story says it right out loud, in the first sentence. Pita points right at it.

  3. Let's find the answer

Question: when did Lin build the wall? Pita grabs the key word, when. She hunts for a time word in each sentence. After lunch, Lin stacked snow blocks into a wall. There it is! That sentence tells the answer.
