Track Plot and Character Change
Analyze how a story or drama unfolds in episodes and how characters respond, make choices, and change as the plot moves toward resolution.
How the lesson starts: Track Plot and Character Change

A dragon who can't fly?
Meet Ember, a young dragon with one big secret. She is scared of heights. Every other dragon soars over the valley, and Ember hides behind a rock. Today we'll track her story in the order it happens.
Ember's story in episodes
A story unfolds in episodes. First, Ember hides during flying lessons. Then her friend Suri the sparrow offers to help. Next, Ember practices hop glides every evening. Finally, a kite gets stuck in a tall pine, and Ember flies up to free it.
Worked example: time words
Writers don't always tell events in order. Read this. By spring, Ember soared over the pines. On Monday, she hid behind a rock. After that, she practiced hop glides. Follow the time words: Monday comes first, then after that, then spring. Not the biggest event first, the earliest.
