How the lesson starts: Addition and Subtraction Fact Families

1. The number bear house

   Hello, friend! In this cozy house live three number bears. Papa Bear is 9. Little bears are 2 and 7. They always stick together. They make a fact family!

2. Add and take away

   2 honey pots and 7 honey pots make 9. 2 + 7 = 9. Now take away 2 from 9. 7 are left. 9 − 2 = 7. Same three numbers!

3. Match a fact

   Match 3 + 5 = 8 with a take-away fact. Find the one with 3, 5 and 8. 8 − 3 = 5. Yes! Watch out! 8 − 2 = 6 has new numbers. It's not in this family.
