How the lesson starts: Make 10 Partners

1. Captain Finn's ship

   Ahoy, friend! This is Captain Finn the pirate. His ship has exactly 10 seats. Every seat needs a parrot! Some parrots are on board. How many more?

2. The ten seats

   Here are the 10 seats. 2 rows of 5. 6 parrots sit down. Count the empty seats. 1, 2, 3, 4. Four empty! So 6 + 4 = 10.

3. How many more?

   7 parrots are on board. How many more make 10? Start at 7. Count up to 10. 8, 9, 10. Three more! Watch out! If all 10 seats are full, the answer is 0.
