How the lesson starts: Turn-Around Addition Facts

1. Toby the train

   Hi friend! Choo choo! This is Toby the train. Toby has red cars and blue cars. Today Toby turns around. Does he still have the same cars? Let's see!

2. Turn around!

   Toby pulls 3 red cars and 8 blue cars. 3 + 8 = 11. Now he turns around. 8 blue cars, then 3 red cars. 8 + 3 = 11. Same cars, same answer!

3. Same answer?

   Which has the same answer as 6 + 2? 2 + 6 is the turn-around. Yes! 6 − 2 is 4. No, that's take away. 6 + 6 is 12. No, that's new numbers.
