How the lesson starts: Build Numbers From Place Values

  1. Zoe's block castle

Hello, builder! Zoe wants to build a block castle. Her recipe says 4 hundreds, 3 tens, and 8 ones. What number is that? Let's build it!

  2. Grab the pieces

First the hundreds: 100, 200, 300, 400. Next the tens: 410, 420, 430. Then the ones: 431, 432, all the way to 438! The castle number is 438.

  3. Let's build 6, 2, 5

    New recipe: 6 hundreds, 2 tens, 5 ones. 6 hundreds is 600. 2 tens is 20. 5 ones is 5. Put them together: 600 + 20 + 5 = 625. The hundreds digit goes first!
