Find half of a quantity by dividing it into two equal groups.

How the lesson starts: Halves

  1. Mia and Leo's cookies

    Hi there! Twins Mia and Leo baked 10 cookies. Yum! They want to share fairly. Fair means each twin gets the same amount. That's called half. What is half of 10?

  2. Two equal groups

    Let's share the cookies. One for Mia, one for Leo. Keep going until they're gone. Mia gets 5. Leo gets 5. Two groups, the same size. Half of 10 is 5!

  3. Doubles help halves

    What is half of 16? Think of a double. Which number plus itself makes 16? 8 + 8 = 16! So half of 16 is 8. Watch out: half is smaller, never double.
