How the lesson starts: Odd and Even Numbers

  1. Granny Rosa's socks

Hi friend! Granny Rosa is sorting her socks. Socks go in pairs, two by two. But look, one sock has no partner! Today we'll learn about odd and even numbers.

  2. Pairs, or one left over

Here are 6 socks: one pair, two pairs, three pairs. None left over, so 6 is even! Now 7 socks: three pairs and one lonely sock. One left over, so 7 is odd.

  3. Two equal groups

Another trick! Split 10 socks into two equal piles. Five and five. 5 + 5 = 10. That's an equal-addend way to make 10. If a number splits into two equal groups, it's even!
