How the lesson starts: Rounding Bridge

  1. Zippy's rollercoaster

    Hop on! Zippy the rollercoaster car zooms over hills. One hill goes from 70 to 80. If Zippy stops at 73, which way will it roll? Rolling to the nearest ten is called rounding!

  2. Roll down the hill

    Here's the hill. Zippy stops at 73. The top of the hill is 75, right in the middle. Zippy is before the top. So it rolls back down to 70. 73 is closer to 70!

  3. Round 68

    Round 68 to the nearest ten. Its tens are 60 and 70. Look at the ones digit: 8. That's 5 or more, so roll forward. 68 rounds to 70! A 5 sits on the top, and rolls forward too.
