Classify Quadrilaterals by Attributes

How the lesson starts: Classify Quadrilaterals by Attributes

  1. Otis's shape shop

Welcome to Otis the owl's shape shop! Otis sells shapes for windows, kites and mosaics. Today a big box of shapes arrived. Let's help Otis find the quadrilaterals!

  2. Four sides: quadrilaterals

First shelf! A square, a rectangle, a rhombus and a trapezoid. They look different. But each one has 4 straight sides and 4 corners. So all of them are quadrilaterals!

  3. Sort the box

Select all the quadrilaterals: square, triangle, trapezoid, circle. Count straight sides. Square: 4, yes! Triangle: 3, no. Trapezoid: 4, yes! Circle: no straight sides at all. So pick the square and the trapezoid. Watch out: there can be more than one!
