How the lesson starts: Understand & Solve Perimeter Problems

1. Kit's bunny pens

   Hop hop! Meet Farmer Kit and her bouncy bunnies. The bunnies need fences around their pens. A fence goes all the way around. That distance is called the perimeter!

2. Walk around the pen

   Here's a rectangle pen. It's 6 units long and 4 units wide. Walk around it: 6, then 4, then 6 again, then 4 again. 6 + 4 + 6 + 4 = 20 units of fence!

3. Any shape works

   The carrot garden has 5 sides: 5, 7, 4, 6 and 8 units. Add every side once: 5 + 7 = 12, 12 + 4 = 16, 16 + 6 = 22, 22 + 8 = 30. The perimeter is 30 units. Watch out: don't skip a side!
