How the lesson starts: Division with Remainders — Intro

1. Coral's shell bags

   Hi, friend! Coral the mermaid found 17 shiny shells. She packs them into gift bags of 5. But 17 doesn't split perfectly! What happens to the extras? Let's see!

2. Fill the bags

   Coral fills bag 1 with 5 shells. Bag 2 gets 5. Bag 3 gets 5. Now only 2 shells are left. That's not enough for another bag. The 2 is left over. So 17 = 5 × 3 + 2.

3. A bigger sort

   Coral has 58 sea stars in groups of 7. Which 7s fact fits? 7 × 8 = 56 fits. 7 × 9 = 63 is too big. Then 58 − 56 = 2 left. So 58 = 7 × 8 + 2. Watch out: the left over must be smaller than 7!
