Rule-Based Number Patterns — Intro

How the lesson starts: Rule-Based Number Patterns — Intro

  1. Zip the bouncy kangaroo

Hello! Meet Zip the kangaroo. Zip hops along a number path. Zip always follows a rule, like add 3. Can you guess where Zip lands next? Let's hop along!

  2. Add 3, hop, hop!

Zip starts at 1. The rule is add 3. Hop! 4. Hop! 7. Hop! 10. Hop! 13. So the next two numbers are 10 and 13. Always use the rule on the last number.

  3. Magic doubling berries

Some rules say double it. Double means add the number to itself. Zip's berry bush doubles each day! 1 berry, then 2, then 4, then 8, then 16. Watch out: doubling is not adding the same amount each time!
