Solve Multiplication Word Problems

How the lesson starts: Solve Multiplication Word Problems

  1. Baker Bea's big order

Hi friend! Welcome to Baker Bea's bakery. Bea packs 4 boxes with 6 cupcakes in each box. How many cupcakes is that? First, let's find the right equation!

  2. Equal groups

Here are Bea's boxes. Box 1 has 6 cupcakes. Box 2 has 6. Box 3 has 6. Box 4 has 6. Equal groups! Equal groups means multiply. 4 groups of 6 is 4 × 6.

  3. Pick the equation

    Bea asks: 3 trays hold 5 cookies each. Which equation finds the total? 3 + 5 is only 8. 5 − 3 is only 2. Too few! 3 trays of 5 are equal groups, so it's 3 × 5.
