Write Whole Numbers as Fractions

How the lesson starts: Write Whole Numbers as Fractions

  1. Baker Benny's pies

Hi friend! Baker Benny sells yummy pies. His sign says 3 pies. But his friend Rosa loves fractions. Can a whole number be a fraction too? Yes, it can!

  2. Wholes on the bottom

Here are 3 whole pies. Benny did not cut them at all. Each pie is 1 whole piece. 3 pieces, each one whole. So 3 = 3/1. The 1 on the bottom means wholes!

  3. Let's write 7

Write 7 as a fraction with denominator 1. The denominator is the bottom number. Bottom 1 means whole pies, not slices. The top tells how many wholes: 7. So 7 = 7/1. Watch out: not 1/7! That's a tiny slice.
