Nina's big bake
Good morning! Welcome to Baker Nina's bakery. Every tray holds 234 mini muffins, and today Nina bakes 12 trays. That's a mountain of muffins! Later she packs treats into bags. Let's multiply and divide big numbers!
Build a muffin rectangle
Break both numbers apart. 234 is 200 + 30 + 4. 12 is 10 + 2. Fill each box: 10 × 200 = 2,000. 10 × 30 = 300. 10 × 4 = 40. Then 2 × 200 = 400. 2 × 30 = 60. 2 × 4 = 8. Add all six boxes: 2,808 muffins!
The stacking way
Here's a quicker way to write it. First, 234 × 2 = 468. Next, 234 × 10 = 2,340. Remember, the 1 in 12 really means 10! Add the two rows: 468 + 2,340 = 2,808. Same answer as the rectangle!
