How the lesson starts: Factors & Multiples

Bea's drum parade
Boom, boom! Bandleader Bea has 24 drummers for the big parade. She wants every row to have the same number of drummers. Let's learn about factors and multiples!
Rows of drummers
Bea tries 4 rows. Here comes the grid: 4 rows with 6 drummers in each row. 4 × 6 = 24. It fits perfectly! So 4 and 6 are factors of 24. And 24 is a multiple of 4, and of 6.
The missing factor
Bea has 56 drummers in 7 equal rows. How many in each row? □ × 7 = 56. Count by 7s: 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 56. That's 8 sevens. So □ = 8. Check: 8 × 7 = 56!
