Measurement Conversions

How the lesson starts: Measurement Conversions

  1. Giant Bo's big party

Meet Giant Bo and his tiny friend Pip the mouse! They're planning a party. Bo says the cake table is 3 feet long. But Pip's ruler only shows inches. How many inches is that? Let's help Pip!

  2. Big unit, small unit

Pip lines up cheese cubes, each 1 inch long. One ruler is 1 foot long. It takes 12 cheese cubes to match 1 foot! A bigger unit holds lots of smaller units.

  3. Multiply to convert

So how long is Bo's 3 foot table? Each foot is 12 inches, so multiply: 3 × 12 = 36. The table is 36 inches long! Time works the same way. 1 hour is 60 minutes, so 4 hours is 4 × 60 = 240 minutes.
