How the lesson starts: Measurement Word Problems

1. Welcome to Camp Sunny!

   Welcome to Camp Sunny! Nia, Leo and camp leader Max have a busy week. Bike rides, a camp store, ropes, juice and trail mix. Every adventure hides a measurement puzzle!

2. Nia's bike ride

   Nia bikes 28 km in the morning. Then she bikes 35 km later. Both are in kilometers, so we can add right away. 28 + 35 = 63. Nia rides 63 km in all!

3. Change at the camp store

   Marshmallows cost $3.25. Leo pays with $5. Count up to find his change. $3.25 plus $0.75 makes $4.00. Then $1.00 more makes $5.00. $0.75 + $1.00 = $1.75. Leo's change is $1.75!
