Rectangle Area & Perimeter
How the lesson starts: Rectangle Area & Perimeter

Hazel's bunny garden
Hazel the bunny is building a garden! It's a rectangle, 6 m long and 4 m wide. She needs a fence to go around it. And she wants carrots to fill the inside. How much of each? Let's help Hazel!
Area: fill the inside
Area is the space inside a shape. Hazel plants one carrot in each square meter. There are 4 rows of 6 squares. 4 × 6 = 24. So the area of the garden is 24 m².
Perimeter: walk around
Perimeter is the distance all the way around. Hazel hops along her fence: 6 m, then 4 m, then 6 m, then 4 m. 6 + 4 + 6 + 4 = 20. She needs 20 m of fence! Don't stop after 2 sides.
