Multiplicative Comparison Problems

How the lesson starts: Multiplicative Comparison Problems

  1. Coach Lulu's team

Hi, team player! Coach Lulu runs the Rockets soccer team. She has 6 balls in her bag. The big shed has 5 times as many! Let's solve soccer puzzles with times as many.

  2. Find the bigger amount

Here is Lulu's bag: 6 balls. The shed has 5 times as many, so picture 5 bags of 6. 6, 12, 18, 24, 30. The shed has 5 × 6 = 30 balls. Missing the bigger amount? Multiply!

  3. Find the smaller amount

A big cooler holds 24 orange slices. That's 4 times as many as a small cooler. So split 24 into 4 equal parts. 24 ÷ 4 = 6. The small cooler holds 6 slices. Missing the smaller amount? Divide!
