How the lesson starts: Add & Subtract Decimals

The Snack Shack
Welcome to Rosa's Snack Shack on Sunny Beach! Theo wants a mango ice pop for $4.35 and a coconut drink for $2.60. How much is that in all? Prices are decimals, so let's learn to add and subtract them!
Line up the points
The big secret: line up the decimal points. First 4.35. Under it, 2.6, which is the same as 2.60. A zero fills the empty spot. Add each column: hundredths, tenths, then ones. 4.35 + 2.60 = 6.95. Theo pays $6.95!
Subtract with a zero
Theo has $5.2 and a pretzel costs $1.75. How much is left? Write 5.2 as 5.20 so both have two places. Subtract each column, borrowing when you need to. 5.20 − 1.75 = 3.45. Watch out: never line up the last digits!
