1. Chef Luca's pizza party

   Welcome to Chef Luca's pizza party! Every pizza is cut into 8 equal slices. Tia eats 3/8 of a pizza, and Ben eats 2/8. How much pizza did they eat together? Let's find out!

2. Add the slices

   Here are Tia's 3 slices. Here are Ben's 2 slices. Put them on one pizza and count: 5 slices. The slices are still eighths, so together they ate 5/8. Add the tops, keep the bottom!

3. Take some away

   Subtracting works the same way. Luca has 7/8 of a veggie pizza. Max takes 3/8. 7 − 3 = 4, so 4/8 are left. And 4/8 simplifies to 1/2! Watch out: never subtract the bottoms.
