Coco's chocolate factory
Welcome to Coco's chocolate factory, where bars get snapped into squares! Coco's friend Jay says 1/2 of a bar is less than 4/8, because a half has fewer pieces. Is Jay right? Let's find out!
Same bar, new names
Three bars, all the same size. The first shows 1/2. The second shows 2/4. The third shows 4/8. The shading is exactly the same length! These are equivalent fractions. Jay was wrong: 1/2 = 4/8.
Snap into smaller pieces
Coco has 3/5 of a bar and wants twentieths. What times 5 makes 20? 4. So snap every piece into 4. Do the same to the top: 3 × 4 = 12. So 3/5 = 12/20. Watch out: change the top and the bottom together!
