Classify 2D Shapes in a Hierarchy
How the lesson starts: Classify 2D Shapes in a Hierarchy

The Shape Museum
Welcome to the Shape Museum! Our tour guide is Gus. Gus points at a square and asks: is this a square, or a rectangle? The surprising answer is both! Let's take the tour.
Checking the corners
Room one: Gus checks the corners. Which shapes always have four right angles, like the corner of a book? The square does. The rectangle does. The rhombus doesn't always: it usually leans. The trapezoid doesn't either.
Measuring the sides
Room two: Gus measures the sides. Which shapes always have four equal sides? The rhombus does. The square does too! The rectangle usually has two long sides and two short ones. The trapezoid has neither rule.
