Divide Fractions by Fractions
How the lesson starts: Divide Fractions by Fractions

Ivy's bow shop
Ivy makes hair bows for the craft fair. She has 3/4 of a yard of ribbon, and each bow needs 1/4 of a yard. How many bows can she make? That's dividing a fraction by a fraction!
How many fit?
Dividing asks: how many 1/4s fit inside 3/4? Hop by fourths: one, two, three hops. So 3/4 ÷ 1/4 = 3 bows! And 2 cups ÷ 2/3 cup: hop by 2/3 and you need 3 hops to reach 2, so 3 jars.
Keep, change, flip
A shortcut: keep the first fraction, change ÷ to ×, flip the second fraction. 1/2 ÷ 3/4 = 1/2 × 4/3 = 4/6 = 2/3. And 1/3 ÷ 2/5 = 1/3 × 5/2 = 5/6. Watch out: flip only the second fraction!
