How the lesson starts: Factors, Multiples & Divisibility

The Penguin Parade
It's the Penguin Parade! Theo has 24 penguins, and they must march in equal rows, with no penguin left out. How many ways can they line up? To find out, we need factors, multiples and a clever digit trick!
Every factor pair
One row of 24. Two rows of 12. Three rows of 8. Four rows of 6. After that, the pairs just flip. So the factors of 24 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 24. A factor divides a number with no remainder.
Skip counting sleds
Now multiples. Each sled holds 14 penguins. Skip count the sleds: 14, 28, 42, 56, 70. These are the first five multiples of 14. Multiply 14 by 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Factors fit into a number. Multiples grow from it!
