Nets of 3D Solids
How the lesson starts: Nets of 3D Solids

Kai's Hamster Hotel
Meet Kai! Kai builds cardboard rooms for a hamster hotel. Each room starts as one flat piece of cardboard. Kai folds it up and, pop, it becomes a 3D box! That flat pattern is called a net.
A cube's net
Here's the net for a cube room. Count the squares: a row of 4, plus one on top and one below. That's 6 squares! Fold them up and they close into a cube, one square for each face.
Nets for other rooms
Kai's tent room uses 2 triangles and 3 rectangles. It folds into a triangular prism. The rooftop room uses 1 square and 4 triangles. The triangles fold up and meet at a point: a square pyramid.
