Ollie's toy shop sale
Welcome to Ollie's Toy Shop! Today there's a big sale: 20% off! Nina wants a teddy bear that costs 60 coins. How many coins will she save? Percents help us shop smart!
Ten percent is the key
Super trick: 10% means one tenth. Split 60 coins into 10 equal parts: each is 6. So 10% of 60 is 6. 20% is two parts: 12 coins. Nina saves 12! 5% is half of 10%: 3. And 15% = 10% + 5% = 9.
What percent is it?
Flip the question. Ollie had 48 balloons and sold 12. What percent did he sell? Percent = part ÷ whole. 12/48 simplifies to 1/4, and 1/4 = 25%. Watch out: the whole goes on the bottom!
