Zuri's animal pens
Hi there, zoo helper! Zookeeper Zuri is building new pens for the giraffes and zebras. She marks each corner of a pen with coordinates on her zoo map. Let's plot the corners and start measuring fences!
Plot the giraffe pen
Zuri plots the giraffe pen's corners in order. A at (1, 1). B at (5, 1). C at (5, 4). D at (1, 4). Then back to A to close the fence. Join the dots in order, and you get a rectangle!
A fence across zero
One fence runs from A at (−3, 5) to B at (6, 5). They share y = 5, so the fence is flat. Look at the x's. From −3 to zero is 3. From zero to 6 is 6. So AB = 3 + 6 = 9. Opposite sides of zero means add!
