Nets of 3D Figures
How the lesson starts: Nets of 3D Figures

The cardboard castle
Hi, builder! Tula and her little brother Rook are building a cardboard castle. Every tower, wall and roof starts as one flat sheet of cardboard that folds up into a 3D shape. That flat pattern is called a net. Let's match nets to shapes!
Towers and walls
Tula unfolds a cube tower. Its net has 6 squares, all the same size. Then she unfolds a castle wall, a rectangular prism like a cereal box. Its net has 6 rectangles in 3 matching pairs: top and bottom, front and back, and the two ends.
Name the roof
Rook finds a net with 5 faces: 3 rectangles and 2 triangles. What solid is it? The 2 triangles are the two ends. The 3 rectangles wrap around the sides. That's a triangular prism, the castle roof! Watch out: a pyramid has triangles too, but its net has only one flat base.
