Unit Price
How the lesson starts: Unit Price

Captain Finn goes shopping
Ahoy! Captain Finn is shopping at the harbor market for her pirate crew. One stall sells 6 treasure maps for $12. How much is just one map? That's called the unit price, and it helps you shop smart. Let's find out!
The price of one
Share the $12 evenly over the 6 maps. Each map costs $2. So $12 ÷ 6 = $2 per map. Unit price = total cost ÷ number of items. When two stores show the price of one, the lower price is the better buy.
Let's work one out
Finn buys 6 pens for $15. $15 ÷ 6 isn't a whole number, and that's okay! Give each pen $2 first. That uses $12, so $3 is left. $3 ÷ 6 = $0.50. So each pen costs $2 + $0.50 = $2.50. Cents count too!
