Spot a Complete Sentence

Recognize sentence boundaries and features: first word, capitalization, spacing, and ending punctuation.

How the lesson starts: Spot a Complete Sentence

  1. All aboard with Tuck!

Hi friend! This is Tuck the turtle. Tuck drives the Sentence Train. A whole sentence is like a whole train. It needs an engine at the front. It needs a caboose at the end. Let's check some trains!

  2. Engine and caboose

Look at this train. The cat naps. The first word starts with a big letter. That is a capital. It is the engine! The end has a dot. That is a period. It is the caboose!

  3. Let's find the whole train

Which one is a whole sentence? The first one has a small T. No engine! The next one has no mark. No caboose! The next one has neither. The last one has a capital and a period. That one is whole!
