Grade 3 Bridge: Derivational Affixes

Recognize common derivational prefixes and suffixes and use them to predict a word’s meaning.

How the lesson starts: Grade 3 Bridge: Derivational Affixes

  1. Mango's Sticker Shop

Hi, friend! Meet Mango the monkey. Mango runs a sticker shop for words. She sticks a small part onto a word. Pop! The word gets a brand new meaning.

  2. What each sticker means

Front stickers: re means again, un means not, pre means before, mis means wrongly. End stickers: ful means full of, less means without.

  3. Mango matches stickers

Mango matches three stickers. Think of an example word. Repaint means paint again, so re means again. Fearless means without fear, so less means without. Misspell means spell wrongly, so mis means wrongly!
