How the lesson starts: Grade 3 Bridge: Explain Word Functions

  1. Ada's Word Job Fair

Welcome to the Word Job Fair! Ada the owl hands out job badges. Every word in a sentence has a job. Some words name things. Some words show action. Let's meet the workers!

  2. Five jobs

A noun names a person or thing. A verb shows what someone does. An adjective tells what kind. An adverb tells how it is done. A pronoun takes the place of a noun.

  3. Ada gives a badge

The happy rabbit hops quickly. What is the job of happy? Ask, does it name? No. Does it show doing? No. It tells what kind of rabbit. A happy one! So happy tells what kind it is.
